CSIOP Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award

This award is to recognize new researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the science of industrial/organizational psychology and related fields. The winner of this award is an up-and-coming researcher whose work is making a significant impact on the field, and is conducting high quality work. The winner of this award will be nominated for the CPA President’s New Researcher Award in 2025, pending eligibility based on date of graduation.

In order to be eligible for this award, individuals must:

  • Have obtained their Masters or PhD in the last 5 years from the date of the upcoming conference (i.e., for the June 2025 competition, degree obtained no earlier than June 2020) and is no longer enrolled in a graduate program (i.e., a student in a PhD program but that has finished their Masters program would not be eligible).

  • Applicants who are more than 5 years from having earned their highest degree, and have had a career break (such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, etc.), are eligible for an extension of this timeframe and may include an explanation of why they are eligible (e.g., “degree was earned 6 years ago and I had a one-year career break for a parental leave”)

  • Be a member of CSIOP, or will become a member if they win the award

  • Conduct work in I/O psychology or a directly relevant field (e.g., organizational behaviour)

Nomination packages will include:

  • The nominee’s CV

  • A letter of nomination of no more than two pages, which should detail the most notable contributions of the individual to their area of expertise/study.

    • A letter from a current CPA/CSIOP member is preferred as this increases ease in nominating the individual for the CPA President’s New Researcher Award, but if this presents any barriers to applying, a non-CPA/CSIOP member can be the nominator. We are also open to self-nominations. Importantly, the source of the nomination will have no bearing on our adjudication.

  • Up to three letters of support (in addition to the nomination letter)

    • If possible, these letters should ideally be from CPA and/or CSIOP members. However, if having CPA/CSIOP members write the letters presents a barrier, we will fully consider letters from non-CPA/CSIOP members and will work with the winner to solicit additional letters for the CPA President’s Award should they win.

We also would like to note that we encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and recognize that contributions can come in many different forms and may be dependent on the area of study.

Please submit your nomination package to pastchair@csiop-scpio.ca by November 30, 2024. All nominees will be evaluated by a panel of CSIOP members.
